A strong defensive effort propelled the 9
th ranked Chargers to a 69-48 victory over the Hastings Broncos in Hastings, Nebraska Saturday afternoon. Four Chargers scored in double figures led by
Mallie McNair who scored 21 points on 50% shooting in the contest.
McNair this season has scored in double-figures in all but two games this season, while shooting 46% from the field and 44% from three.
Holding on to a six-point lead in the beginning of the second half, BCU went on a 11-0 run to build a 48-31 lead. Briar Cliff held the Broncos scoreless in the third quarter, with the first basket of the quarter for Hastings coming at the 4:20 mark.
Briar Cliff took a 21-point lead with a little over a minute remaining in the contest following a three from
Grace Flanagan and a basket from
Adrianna Webster.
The Cliff's defense held the Broncos to 29% from the field and 19% from three-point land in the contest. BCU forced 20 turnovers and recorded 14 steals in the contest.
Briar Cliff knocked down 10 threes in the contest, paced by
Grace Flanagan's four threes. Flanagan finished with 14 points and grabbed four rebounds.
Adrianna Webster recorded another double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds to go with four steals and four assists.
Kennedy Benne finished with a near double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds to go with four steals.
The Chargers have made it five straight and improved to 13-2 (7-2 GPAC). They will return to the Newman Flanagan Center next Saturday, hosting the 14
th ranked Concordia Bulldogs. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
