Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

CHARGERS MAKE IT THREE STRAIGHT, DOWN MOUNT MARTY

The Charger men's basketball team made it three straight victories, beating Mount Marty 83-75 inside the Newman Flanagan Center Thursday evening.

"Tonight was a good win for our guys, great way to start the second half of the season," said Head Coach Mark Svagera. "I thought the turning point in the first half was we went on a big run because our defensive intensity cranked up, we created some turnovers that led to some easy baskets and that changed the whole game for us."

After trading baskets early, the Lancers built a seven-point lead near the midway point of the first half following three straight baskets from Brandon Garcia. A three-ball from Nick Schefers cut the lead 24-22 and forced a Lancer timeout. BCU took a two-point lead heading into half time.

Blake Sindelar was efficient in the second half, leading the charge with 11 points while shooting four-for-six from the field and dished out three assists. Jaxson Wingert added 10 points and went four-for-five from the charity stripe.

"When Blake Sindelar is scoring the ball for us, our offensive usually flows pretty well." Said Svagera.

BCU in the final minute iced the game away, going five-for-six from the free throw line.

Sindelar finished with 20 points and shot 70% from the field and knocked down three triples. Matthew Stilwill finished with 15 points and a team-high eight assists to go with six rebounds. He also recorded three steals. Wingert finished with 13 points and shot 50% from the field. Jamison Helmers chipped in 11 points while Wil Lugar added nine points and grabbed seven rebounds. Karter Lein finished with seven points and went three-for-three from the field.

"Karter Lein was the X-factor for us, he gave us great minutes off the bench and gave us some points and played great defense and Nick Schefers gave us some great minutes in the first half. I was really proud of those seniors to step in and play well.

The Chargers improved to 8-7 (3-4 GPAC) and will hit the road to take on the Hastings Broncos this Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:45 p.m.
