The Charger men's soccer team took a 2-1 victory in the Sioux City Derby against Rival Morningside Wednesday afternoon on Faber Field. With the win, the men's soccer team achieved 300 program wins.
After a scoreless first half, Morningside's Bennet Wesselkaemper scored in the 65
th minute off an assist from Gustavo Dos Santos to put the Mustangs up 1-0.
The Chargers responded quickly, as
Milorad Rajovic scored the equalizer in the 68
th minute off a volley from Antoni Llull Plomar in the 68
th minute.
In the 85
th minute,
Flynn Kopp scored the game winner off a strike outside the box to put the Chargers up 2-1 in the 85
th minute.
Phillip Haenel spent all 90 minutes at keeper for the Chargers, recording three saves in the contest.
The back line of
Alex Johnson, Herman Toftevag,
Finlay Skilling, and
Cole Van Holland limited the Mustangs to just four shots on goal.
BCU held the advantage in shots 15-8 and corner kicks 4-3.
The Chargers move to 3-7-1 (2-1 GPAC) and will return to action this Saturday, as they take on the Concordia Bulldogs in Seward, NE. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.
