The Charger men's soccer team opened GPAC play with a 2-0 victory over the Tigers of Doane in Crete, Nebraska Wednesday evening.
The Cliff recorded their first clean sheet of the season, as goalkeeper Phillip Haenel played all 90 minutes and recorded three saves. The back line of
Lucas Monteiro, Herman Toftevag,
Cole Van Holland, and
Finlay Skilling limited the Tigers' offense to just seven total shots with three on goal.
BCU struck first in the 25
th minute of the first half, as
Gabriel Hernandez Les delivered a perfect cross on a corner kick to
Lucas Monteiro who capped it off with a header to give the Chargers a 1-0 lead early.
In the 60
th minute,
Filip Peters delivered a cross into the box off and
Flynn Kopp who finished with a header to put BC up 2-0.
Briar Cliff spent majority of the contest in the attacking side, recording 14 shots with 10 on goal. Peters recorded five shots with four on goal in the contest.
The Chargers move to 2-6-1 (1-0 GPAC) and will return to Faber Field this Saturday as they host the Broncos of Hastings. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
