Chargers Fall To Broncos In Heartbreaker

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – It was a heartbreaker as the Briar Cliff University men's soccer team (1-1 GPAC, 2-7-1) lost 2-1 to Hastings (1-1 GPAC, 3-6), Saturday afternoon at Faber Field.

Briar Cliff drew first blood in the contest.  Sophomore Andrew Buchanan delivered a beautiful pass to junior Filip Peters.  He blasted the ball into the twine for a 1-0 lead.

The Charger's defense was in fine form allowing Hastings just three shots in the first half.  On the offensive end, BCU had several near misses.

In the second half, strong keeper play by freshman Philip Haenel and Pablo Acre-Salinas kept the game at 1-0 with 15 minutes to go.

The Broncos made a nice play to tie the game at the 76:18 mark.  Hastings managed to score with 9:12 left to take the lead.

Briar Cliff refused to quit.  In the last two minutes, the Chargers had two strong scoring chances that were denied by great saves.

Briar Cliff had 15 shots with eight on goal, six corner kicks and were called for 13 fouls.

Hastings had nine shots with six on goal, one corner kick and were called for 12 fouls.  Arce-Salinas had seven saves.
