BRIAR CLIFF SPLITS UP LANCERS

MOUNT MARTY, S.D. – The Briar Cliff University softball team (1-3 GPAC, 13-12) split with Mount Marty (3-5 GPAC, 10-16), Wednesday afternoon at North-East Seratoma Field.  The Chargers lost 6-3 and took the nightcap 4-0.

Game - 1
Mount Marty looked to be in control with a 4-0 lead after four innings.  In the fifth inning, junior Karis Gifford singled in between outs.

Senior Kylee Lukes doubled through the left side to move Gifford to third.  Senior Aubrey Chichurka singled to score Gifford and Lukes.

Sophomore Montie Richter came in to run and promptly stole second.  Junior Rylee Cain singled to score Richter and make it 4-3.

The Lancers scored twice in the sixth inning to seal the game.

For Briar Cliff, Chikhurka, Gifford and junior Jessica James had two hits each.  Sophomore Grace Batcheller (4-4) gave up six hits, four runs, walked three and struck out three in four innings.

For Mount Marty, McKenzie Gray (1-0) gave up 10 hits, three runs, walked one and struck out three in seven innings.

Game – 2
In the first inning, Lukes crushed the ball over the center field fence for the early 1-0 lead.  In the second inning, Cain singled, moved to third on two ground balls and would score on a passed ball.

MMU had a runner on in each of the first four innings.  The Chargers used strong pitching and defense to hold them back.  BCU scored twice over the last two innings to close it out.

For Briar Cliff, junior Kylie Wilhelms led the attack with three hits.  Junior Georgia Krohn (6-4) threw a seven-inning complete game five-hitter with two walks and 11 strikeouts. 

For Mount Marty, Makayla Graunke (0-1) gave up 10 hits, four runs with three earned, walked one and struck out five in seven innings.

Briar Cliff keeps to the road, Friday, Apr. 5 taking on Dordt.  The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
