The Charger softball team split their doubleheader against the Defenders Friday evening in Sioux Center, Iowa.

Game 1, L – 3-2,

In the top of the first,
Karis Gifford led off with a single to center field followed by an RBI-triple from Kylee Luks carded the game's first run.
Kylie Wilhelms' sacrifice fly to deep center field drove in Lukes to put the Chargers up 2-0.

Dordt drove in two runs the next half-inning to even the score.
Â
In the bottom of the fifth the Defenders benefited from a one-out triple to score the deciding run to take game one. Lukes went two-for-two at the plate with one run and a RBI in the contest.
Autumn Soter and Gifford were the only other Chargers to record a hit.

Grace Batcheller tossed a complete game recording one strike out while allowing seven hits.

Game 2, W 7-4,

Soter had the hot hand for the Chargers, belting a three-run blast in the top of the first to give BCU the early lead. In the bottom of the third, Soter drove another run in with sacerfice fly to drive in
Karina Cupples.

In the top of the fifth with the score tied, Wilhelms infield single drove in Cupples to give Briar Cliff a 5-4 lead.

RBI singles from Lukes and Soter in the seventh added insurance runs as the Chargers took the 7-4 victory.

Krohn earned her seventh victory in the pitching circle, pitching a complete game while allowing three earned runs on five hits while striking out two.
Â
Soter paved the way at the plate, going two-for-three with five RBIs.
