The Cliff softball team dropped two close games Friday afternoon, falling 6-3 in both contests on senior day.
Game 1 – L, 6-3
After giving up two runs, the Chargers clawed their way back into the contest in the bottom after
Kieya Belmont laid down the perfect bunt to move
Karina Cupples to third base and put runners at the corner.
Karis Gifford drew a walk to load the bases with two outs.
Jessica James recorded a RBI-single towards left center to card the Cliff's first run.
Briar Cliff in the bottom of the sixth scored two runs following a Skyler Bainter triple to left field. The Chargers in the top of the seventh gave up two runs to trail 6-3.
The Chargers looked to rally in the bottom of the seventh following a lead off single from Belmont. The Bulldogs defense were able to record the next three outs to secure the game.
Game 2 – L, 6-3
In the bottom of the third,
Aubrey Chichurka recorded a walk with one out.
Kylie Wilhelms hit a double down the right field line to put runners on second and third.
Rylee Cain recorded a RBI-single to score the game's first run. Bainter was able to card the games second run after forcing a fielder's choice during her at-bat.
BCU would give up four runs in the final innings to fall 6-3.
James went two-for-four at the plate.
The Chargers slide to 17-18 (5-9 GPAC), and will return to action tomorrow as they take on Midland at the Bishop Mueller Complex. Game one is slated for 1 p.m. with game two following shortly after.
