CHARGERS SPLIT AGAINST MIDLAND

After dropping their first contest against #12 Midland, the Charger softball team responded with a 3-0 win to split the series behind the pitching gem of Georgia Krohn.

Game 1, L 6-0

The Warriors jumped out to an early five run lead, scoring three in the top of the second.

Bella Valdez entered in the second inning in the pitching circle for the Cliff and in 5.1 innings of work, gave up just one run and struck out five. She recorded four scoreless innings.

The Cliff received hits from Kylee Lukes, Karis Gifford, Kylie Wilhelms, and Karina Cupples. In the bottom of the sixth, the Cliff looked for momentum after Cupples led off the inning with a single. Cupples then tagged up on a deep fly ball to left field to put a runner in scoring position.

Gifford laid down a perfect bunt to put runners at the corners with one out. Jessica James was able to put the ball in play, but a comebacker straight to the pitcher allowed for the Warriors to throw Cupples out at home.

Wilhelms loaded the bases following a single to center field, but the rally was halted after Audrey Evola fell to a strikeout.

Game 2, W. 3-0

Krohn shutdown the Warriors in game two, throwing a complete game shutout while striking out seven. She allowed just three hits and gave up three walks.

In the bottom of the third with two outs, Lukes blasted her 10th homer of the season, a two-run shot to put the Chargers up 2-0.

In the bottom of the fifth, Gifford launched a double in the left field gap, allowing Kieya Belmont to score from first to give the Chargers a 3-0 lead.

Down to their final three outs, the Warriors looked to claw back after the lead off hitter reached base via walk. The Cliff forced a fielder's choice the next at-bat, followed by a strikeout from Krohn led the Warriors to their final out. Wilhelms at first made a tough catch on a hard liner hit towards her to record the final out.

The Cliff move to 18-19 (6-10 GPAC), and will host the Tigers of Doane Wednesday April 24th.
