The Charger baseball dropped their doubleheader against Cumberland (TN) Thursday 9-4 and 3-1.

Game 1 – L, 9-4

The Phoenix in the bottom of the first tacked on seven runs and took a commanding lead to start.

The Cliff continued to battle, as
Rance Bryant hit a one-out single followed by
Jared Sitzmann's single to put runners at the corners.
Easton Cone recorded an RBI-single to card the Cliff's first run.

Diego Trujillo in the top of the third belted a two-run shot over the right field wall to plate two more runs across. In the top of the fourth, Cone,
Damon Schmid, and
Matthew Hmielewski recorded singles to load up the bases with no outs. After a pitching change, the Phoenix retired the next two batters. Cam Reimer carded the Cliff's final run of the contest after his infield single.

Hmielewski, Bryant, and Riemer all went two-for-four at the plate. Cone went two-for-three with a run and RBI. In a relief effort,
Owen Lester threw 5.2 innings and struck out six while allowing two runs.

Game 2 – L, 3-1

The Chargers struck first in the top of the first, as Sitzmann hit an RBI-Sac fly to put the Chargers up 1-0. The Phoenix responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning.

The Phoenix added an insurance run in the bottom of the third. Â

In the top of the fifth, BCU looked to gain momentum following a lead-off single from
Diego Trujillo followed by a single from Bryant.
Walker Moore laid down a sacrifice bunt to move runners to second and third with one out. The Cliff were unable to capitalize, as the Phoenix retired the next two batters.

Trujillo went two-for-three while scoring a run in the contest.
Cy Patterson went a perfect three-for-three at the dish. Hmielewski pitched a complete game and recorded three strikeouts.

The Chargers will return to action tomorrow to cap off the series against Cumberland. First pitch is slated for noon depending on the weather.
