BC BASEBALL DEFEATS MIDLAND ON SENIOR DAY

Briar Cliff used a four-run fourth inning and a big day from Nico Sall to defeat Midland 9–4 on Friday afternoon at Bishop Mueller Field.

Sall powered the Chargers offensively, finishing with two home runs and five RBIs to lead Briar Cliff's eight-hit attack. His first homer, a grand slam in the fourth inning, broke open a tight game and gave the Chargers a 5–0 lead.

Briar Cliff struck first in the second inning when Cael Walrod delivered an RBI single to score the game's opening run. The Chargers then seized control in the fourth, loading the bases before Sall cleared them with his first long ball of the day.

Midland responded with four runs in the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 5–4. Dax Wandler highlighted the rally with a two-run double, while Eimir Perez Jr. added an RBI single.

The Chargers answered immediately in the bottom half of the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Raenan Padilla, extending the lead to 6–4. Briar Cliff added insurance in the sixth inning, beginning with Sall's second homer of the game. RBI singles from Clayton Luett and Jake Christianson pushed the advantage to 9–4.

On the mound, Brock Saya earned the win after allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits over five innings while striking out seven. Brett Sitzmann secured the save, tossing two shutout innings with four strikeouts to close out the victory.

Cole Hupke took the loss for Midland after surrendering six runs over four innings.

Damon Schmid added a hit and scored twice for Briar Cliff, while Christianson and Luett each drove in a run during the late innings to help seal the win. Game two was cancelled due to weather.

The Chargers conclude the regular season 25-21 (18-9 GPAC) and will await their seed for the GPAC Conference Tournament. Stay tuned for more updates.
