CHARGERS CONTINUE TO ROLL, DOWN ST. FRANCIS AND DICKINSON STATE

The Charger softball team continued to roll, as they took down University of St. Francis (IL) and Dickinson State Tuesday by the scores of 5-3, and 8-0. During the week, Kylee Lukes became the Cliff's all-time leader in runs batted in. She currently stats at 62 in her career.

Game 1 vs St. Francis – W, 5-3

"There is no quit in this team. An intense first game to go back and forth with St. Francis and Lukes to have her wits about her in the bottom of the 7th and hit a walk off HR was huge for her and our team. Career leader in RBIs. What an accomplishment for her." said Head Coach TJ Eadus

After two scoreless innings, St. Francis struck first in the top of the third, as Emily Boyle recorded an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Cliff's offense got rolling following an Aubrey Chichurka's leadoff single. With two outs, Hailey Yon hit a ground rule double to put runners on second and third. Sydney Ebel recorded a RBI-single to left field to drive in the Chargers first run of the game.

In the bottom of the fifth, a solo blast from Lukes gave the Chargers a 2-1 lead heading into the final innings. St. Francis responded with two runs in the next half-inning to take back a 3-2 lead. In the final inning, Ebel led off with a single while Karis Gifford reached on a fielder's choice. During the play, Ebel tried to tie the contest, but was called out at Homeplate. Montie Richter reached base on an error, and the Chargers were down to their final out with runners at the corners.

With Lukes coming up to the dish, she belted a three-run homer to give the Chargers the 5-3 walk off win.

The pitching duo of Joliana Mancha and Grace Batcheller slowed down the St. Francis offense, as Manch threw four innings and allowed one earned run while Batcheller tossed three innings, allowing just one earned run and recorded two strikeouts.

Lukes went two-for-three at the plate with four RBIs in the contest. Ebel went two-for-three with one RBI in the contest.

Game 2 vs Dickinson State – W 8-0 (5 Innings)

"Georgia Krohn came out and pitched a gem of a game with Rylee Cain picking apart their hitters. Our offense stayed hot with plating 8 runs. That's all Krohn needed to walk away with the win." said Eadus

Georgia Krohn was in full command in the pitching circle, throwing five scoreless innings and recording four strikeouts with zero hits.

The Charger offense exploded in the third inning, plating five runs across. Rylee Cain, Lukes, and Chichurka all recorded RBI singles in the inning. Jessica James scored on a passed ball followed by an RBI single from Yon gave the Cliff a 5-0 lead.

Lukes in the top of the fourth drove in Kieya Belmont followed by an RBI single from Chichurka tacked on two more runs for the Chargers.

In the top of the fifth, Gifford was able to put the ball in play, driving in Yon to put the Chargers up by eight and enforcing the run rule.

Belmont went a perfect three-for-three at the plate and scored two runs. Chichurka went two-for-three with two RBIs in the contest.

The Chargers improve to 7-5 on the season, and will continue their spring break action against Graceland and OUAZ tomorrow at 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. in Tuscon, Arizona
