A late rally by the Chargers fell short, as they dropped their contest to #25 Freed-Hardeman Tuesday 4-3. The Chargers had the bases loaded at the top of the ninth but failed to bring runners home.
Â
The Lions in the first inning raced out to a quick 3-0 lead on two hits.
Â
A series of errors by the Lions in the top of the second, led
Cy Patterson to advance to second base with two outs. Patterson quickly moved to third base on a passed ball, and the Lions' catcher looked to throw Patterson out at third. The ball got away from the third baseman and allowed Patterson to put a run on the board for the Cliff.
Â
In the top of the fifth,
Jared Sitzmann led off the inning with a single. With two outs and a runner on first,
Justin Remar belted a two-run blast over the left field wall to tie the game 3-3. The Lions in the bottom of the sixth scored a run to take a one-run lead.
Â
In the top of the ninth, Sitzmann and Remar recorded singles and advanced to second and third off a wild pitch to put runners on second and third. Zak Evers drew a walk to load the bases. Down to the final out, the Lions would escape the jam after Evers was called for runner interference.
Â
The Cliff move to 5-8 on the season, and will travel to Lebanon, TN to play a three-game series against Cumberland. The Chargers will play a doubleheader Friday, March 8, with game one slated for 11 a.m.
