The Charger softball team split day two of the Columbia Invite, falling to Columbia College 4-3 before beating Missouri Valley 3-0 later in the day.
Game 1 – L, 4-3
In the top of the fourth, the Chargers loaded up the bases with two outs. A two-run RBI double from
Rylee Cain gave the Cliff a brief 2-1 lead before Columbia responded with a run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.
A series of errors in the bottom of the fifth doomed the Chargers, as Columbia scored two runs in the inning.
The Cliff scored a run in the top of the seventh as
Montie Richter scored on an error to cut the lead down to one.
Grace Batcheller pitched a complete game while allowing two earned runs on just four hits.
Kieya Belmont went two-for-three in the contest.
Game 2 – W, 3-0
Georgia Krohn threw a complete game shutout and limited the Missouri Valley offense to just five hits. She recorded four strikeouts and allowed just one walk.
In the bottom of the second,
Jessica James recorded an RBI-double to put Briar Cliff up 1-0. In the next inning,
Karina Cupples scored on an error followed by an
Kylie Wilhelms' RBI-double put the Cliff up 3-0.
From the fifth inning on, the Charger defense stepped up, not allowing a single base runner for the remainder of the contest.
The Chargers move to 11-8 on the season and will play Stephens college and Columbia tomorrow to wrap up their weekend. Game one is slated for 11 a.m. followed by the Contest against Columbia at 3 p.m.
