The Charger women's basketball team outlasted the Jamestown Jimmies 85-73 Wednesday evening inside the Newman Flanagan Center in the GPAC quarterfinal round.
Konnor Sudmann led the way with an 18-point, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists triple-double.
Rachel Langel led the Cliff in scoring with 19 points and went nine-for-10 from the field.
After giving up back-to-back baskets in the opening minutes,
Mallie McNair got the Cliff on the board with a three ball off an assist from
Payton Slaughter. Trailing 13-8,
Grace Flanagan knocked down a three followed by a jumper from Langel to tie the game 13-13 midway through the first quarter. The Chargers would take a 25-23 lead heading into halftime.
Out of the break, a three from
Kenna Mongan followed by two jumpers from Langel and a free throw from
Kennedy Benne built a 10-point lead early. A three from Flanagan midway through the quarter extended the lead to 38-27. The Jimmies would not shy away, closing the gap and trailed the Cliff 47-42 at the half.
In the opening minutes of the third, the Chargers went on a 10-0 run powered by back-to-back threes from
Payton Slaughter to lead 57-42. A jumper from Sudmann and a free throw from Slaughter gave the Cliff an 11-point lead heading into the final frame.
In the final frame the Chargers led by 18 with little over four minutes to go in the contest. Benne made the most out of her attempts at the charity stripe, going four-for-seven to help ice the contest away.
The Cliff shot 47% from the field and buried 10 triples in the contest. The Chargers also shot 75% from the free throw line. The Charger defense held the Jimmies to 40% from the field and 37% from three.
The Cliff improves to 21-8 on the season, and will travel to Seward, Nebraska this Saturday, to take on the Bulldogs of Concordia in semifinal round. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m.
