WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PREPARES FOR NAIA OPENING ROUND

The Charger women's basketball returns to action this Friday, March 13, in the opening round of the NAIA Women's Basketball Championship, heading to Fort Wayne, Indiana, to take on the College of Idaho Yotes. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. CT / 7:00 p.m. ET.

SCOUTING THE CHARGERS
The Briar Cliff women's basketball team returns to action after finishing the regular season with a 19-10 overall record and 13-9 in GPAC play, finishing fifth overall.  
 
Abby Lee led the way for the Chargers, averaging 19.3 points per game, shooting an efficient 50.8% from the floor. Lee also grabbed 7.6 rebounds per game and added 40 blocks on the season. 
 
Mallie McNair followed with 18.4 points per game, shooting 44% from the floor and 35% from beyond the arc. She also adds four rebounds, three assists, and two steals a game.
 
Brooklyn Heineman and Kenna Mongan totaled 9.4 and 9.3 points per game, respectively, on the season. Heineman led the team in assists, totaling 108 on the season at 3.7 per game, while also contributing 5.7 rebounds per game. 


SCOUTING THE YOTES
The College of Idaho Yotes are a member of the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC), which features schools primarily out of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. The Yotes return to action after finishing the regular season with a 21-8 overall record and a 15-5 CCC record.
 
Kylie Waltermeyer led the Yotes, averaging 11.7 points per game, while also adding six rebounds per game and two assists. Anna Mooney follows with 9.1 points per game and tallies three assists per game.
 
The College of Idaho has three players who all average seven points per game: Maiya Hardy, Mia Austin, and Riley Beck.
 
NATIONAL TOURNAMENT HISTORY 
This marks the Chargers' 18th appearance in the NAIA National Tournament and their fifth consecutive trip, where they hold a 36–17 all-time record. However, this will be Briar Cliff's first national tournament appearance under Head Coach Connor Sonius.

This also marks the 10th NAIA National Tournament appearance for the College of Idaho.

The Yotes and Chargers have not faced each other since the 2000 NAIA National Tournament, when the College of Idaho edged Briar Cliff 69–68.
