The 12^th ranked Charger women's basketball team strong defense led them to a 118-59 victory over the College of Saint Mary Flames Saturday afternoon inside the Newman Flanagan Center. The Cliff forced 35 turnovers and recorded 27 steals in the contest.
 
Kennedy Benne led the Chargers with 17 points and recorded eight steals while dishing out four assists. She was seven-for-10 from the field.
 
The Chargers opened the contest with a 6-0 run, with Benne recording two layups in the stretch. The Flames knocked down a three to trail 8-7 midway through the quarter before the Chargers outscored the Flames 24-3 in back half of the quarter to lead 32-11 heading into the second frame.
 
BCU led 60-25 heading into halftime, capped off by a and-one play from Ella Reinoehl.
 
Reinoehl scored 15 points and shot six-for-eight from the field and grabbed two rebounds. Kenna Mongan added 16 points and knocked down two threes in the contest. Mallie McNair scored 13 points and recorded five steals while shooting 50% from the field.
 
Taylor Sodeman added 12 points while shooting five-for-five from the field. Brigid Boyle chipped in 10 points and collected five rebounds.
 
Briar Cliff turned defense into offense, recording 50 points off turnovers. BCU recorded 70 points in the paint. The Cliff shot 52% from the field and drilled nine threes in the contest and were a near-perfect 11-for-12 from the charity stripe.
 
BCU Improves to 9-2 (5-2 GPAC) and will head to Florida to participate in the Cruzin Classic. The Chargers will play St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens, Florida next Tuesday at 3 p.m. central time.
