BIG FIRST HALF LIFTS CHARGERS OVER LANCERS

The Briar Cliff women's soccer team secured their first GPAC win of the season Sunday in a dominating 6-1 victory over Mount Marty in Yankton, South Dakota.

Hannah Shuttleworth got the Charger scoring started early with a goal in the third minute of play. She was assisted by Janay Geng Meier and Gemma White.

In the 10th minute, White sent a perfect cross right to Addison Frisch in front of the net who beat the Lancer keeper with a header. White added her name to the scoring column in the 21st minute. White played Meier in the middle of the field and passed it right back to White who put the Chargers up 3-0 by chipping it past the goalie.

Sydney Robbins received a pass in the penalty area and was awarded a penalty kick after getting tripped by a Lancer defender. Robbins beat the keeper on the left side, putting the Cliff up 4-0 at halftime.

Mount Marty would score a goal in the 59th minute, but a second goal from Shuttleworth in the 71st minute and one from Tia Lisy in the 75th would ice the 6-1 win.

The Chargers peppered the net with 20 shots on goal, while holding the Lancers to six. Each team was awarded four corner kicks in the match.

White and Lisy led the Cliff with five and four shots on goal, respectively. 11 different Chargers put shots on net.

Kinley Wood made three first half saves, while Jaime Rowlands turned away two shots in the second half.

The Chargers return to Memorial field Wednesday when they host Hastings for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff.
