The Briar Cliff men's soccer team scored early and often against McPherson Wednesday, as they improved to 3-0 on the season with a 7-1 win.
"We started very quickly and were able to score a couple fantastic team goals early on which set the tempo for the rest of the match," said head coach Teren Schuster. "We created a lot of chances and took our chances when they came. I'm proud of the boys, it was a great win and a great team performance on the road."
The Charger attack peppered the goal for a full 90 minutes, recording 30 total shots with 17 on frame.
Alex Johnson put the Blue and Gold on the scoreboard first with a goal just five minutes into the match. The Charger midfield played a long ball to
Axel Bjerke up the right side, who then found Johnson right in front of the net, who chipped it past the keeper.
Hugo Mariage added to the BC lead four minutes later, after a miscue by the McPherson defender, Mariage corralled the ball and scored his second goal of the season.
Nicolas Karlsen put the Cliff up 4-0 after he scored back-to-back goals in just over a minute of game time. Karlsen scored the first goal unassisted and received the ball right in front of the net for his second goal off a pass from the right goal line from
Andrew Buchanan.
McPherson scored their lone goal of the contest in the 46th minute, but the Chargers would pour on three second half goals in a 10-minute span as they cruised to a 7-1 victory.
After traveling for their first three games of the season, the Chargers will host Friends on Monday for their home opener at Memorial Field. Kickoff is set for 11:00 a.m. between the Chargers and Falcons.
