The Charger women's basketball team opened the season with a 143-24 win over Manhattan Christian in the McPherson Classic Friday evening. Six different Chargers scored in double figures in the contest. The Chargers now hold the second-highest point total in a single game for the NAIA. The Cliff also set a new program record for single-game point total, previously held by the 1996-97 team when they scored 122 against Northwest Minnesota State.
The Chargers got off to an early 20-0 run in the first quarter, after a layup from
Mallie McNair and a free throw from
Konnor Sudmann. Briar Cliff entered intermission leading 76-11.
Jayden Frank scored a team-high 22 points, shooting 75% from the field.
Taylor Sodeman added 19 points to go with eight rebounds and eight steals.
Kenna Mongan added 16 points and six assists in the contest.
The Chargers will return to action Saturday as they play their second game in the McPherson Classic against John Brown University. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m.
