Charger track and field battles cold, windy conditions at Red Raider Open

The Briar Cliff track and field team battled cold, windy conditions on day two of the Red Raider Open Thursday in Orange City, Iowa. Paxon Fleming, Isabel Sayler and Ben Jefferies highlighted the day with first-place finishes in their respective events.

"Today weather was a huge factor, but we went out and got after it anyway," said head coach Scott Barnes. "We knew our efforts wouldn't show up in the clock and distances, but it's meets like this that make you tougher and able to make the next step. With 10 days off from a meet, we look to get some great workouts in and do great at USD."

Fleming finished first with a time of 16.23 in the 110-meter hurdles and was 0.92 seconds faster than the second-place finisher.

Sayler won her second straight triple jump with a leap of 10.24m. Sayler won the triple jump at the Sioux City Relays last week with a mark of 10.71m.

Jefferies was the first to cross the finish line in the 100m with a time of 11.05 seconds.

Robert Amaro's time of 2:04.81 seconds was good for a seventh-place finish in the 800. Robert Breen was eighth in both the 100 and 200 with times of 12.37 and 25.12 seconds, respectively. Kenny Nolan was 11th in the 1500m with a time of 4:59.46. The Charger 4x400 relay team of Kotey, Archer, Fleming and Jefferies was the top time at 3:31.58.
