The Briar Cliff baseball team defeated Dakota State 12-7 Wednesday behind a six-run third inning at Bishop Mueller Field. The Chargers move into conference play this weekend with a 10-6 record and are a perfect 6-0 on home field.
"We played clean baseball and swung the bats well today," said head coach
Corby McGlauflin. "Our bullpen arms did a good job all day and our guys played great defense."
Dakota State scored twice in the opening frame off back-to-back sacrifice flies.
Walter Hunt cut the Trojan lead in half by sending a solo home run over left field in the bottom of the second.
With two outs in the bottom of the third, the Chargers scored six runs off two hits, five walks and one hit by pitch. Dakota State got two runs back in the fourth, but the Chargers responded with one run in the bottom of the inning and two in the fifth.

Trey Rogers to take a 10-4 lead.
BC added two more insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth. With the bases loaded,
Mike Anthony reached base via catcher interference, scoring
Brayden Artzer.
Easton Cone scored
Jake Allen later in the inning with a sacrifice fly. Dakota State tacked on three runs in the top of the ninth, but
Austin Carter closed out the 12-7 win by forcing a groundout to first base.
Hunt went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs to lead the Cliff. Adler and Riemer each drove in two runs. Quinten Evers drew three walks and as a team BC recorded nine walks.
Cody Salker started on the mound and went 3.0 innings while allowing four runs (two earned) with four hits.
Brett Sitzmann earns the win with his 3.0 innings of work in relief. He allowed just one hit while striking out four.
The Chargers enter GPAC play this weekend with a four-game series against Morningside. Saturday's doubleheader will be played at Bishop Mueller Field at 12 and 2:30 p.m.
