#25 Chargers earn 12th conference win with 74-63 victory over Mount Marty

The #25 Briar Cliff men's basketball team earned their 12th GPAC win Wednesday night with a 74-63 win over Mount Marty. The Cliff improves to 16-7 overall and 12-3 in conference play.
 
"Tonight was a good win to bounce back after a tough loss," said head coach Mark Svagera. "I thought we really settled in offensively in the second half and got some great shots."
 
The Lancers held a 5-4 lead four minutes in, before the Chargers took a nine-point lead off a 10-0 run. Six straight Charger points from Matthew Stilwill, followed by a Boerhave bucket gave BC their largest lead of the first half, 26-14 with five minutes remaining. Stilwill found Tyrus Eischeid in the paint for a bucket with a minute left, but the Lancers responded with a 2-pointer to close the half with BC holding a 32-29 edge.
 
The Chargers shot 14-for-28 in the opening 20 minutes off 11 assists. Stilwill and Boerhave paced BC with eight points apiece. Stilwill was 4-for-5 with three rebounds.
 
Back-to-back treys from Jaden Kleinhesselink started an 11-3 Charger run as they pushed their lead back to double-digits with 11:48 left. An and-one from Quinn Vesey gave the Chargers a 50-38 edge, but the Lancers started to chip away, cutting the deficit to five with 7:46 remaining. 
 
Vesey's third trey of the night with 4:15 left put the Cliff up 62-51. The Chargers led by over seven points for the remainder of the game. Nick Hoyt knocked down 4-of-4 free throw attempts in the last minute. 
 
Vesey poured in 16 points on 6-for-7 shooting to go with three assists and two steals. Boerhave matched Vesey's 16 points and added seven rebounds. Kleinhesselink chipped in 14 points with five boards and three assists. 
 
The Chargers shot 53.8% from the field and went 12-for-16 from the free throw line, compared to 38.3% shooting for Mount Marty and 13-for-15 from the line. BC scored 38 points in the paint and got 16 points from their bench.
 
Tyrell Harper scored a game high 18 points with 12 boards to lead the Lancers. Matthew Becker chipped in 11 off the bench. 
 
The Chargers travel crosstown Saturday looking for the season sweep over Morningside. Tip is set for 3:45 p.m. in Allee Gym.
