The Briar Cliff volleyball team fell in straight sets Wednesday night to #19 Dordt in Sioux Center, Iowa. Slow starts in each set would spell doom for the Chargers in De Witt Gymnasium.
"Sami has been the most consistent offensive player for us, she is able to terminate the ball when we need to score and get out of serve receive," said head coach
Lindsey Weatherford. "Toria came up big for us tonight with blocks. She came into the match several times and put up a good solid block in the front row. Dordt is big on the front line, they are a hard block to hit around and we could not find a way to terminate around or through them at times.
The Chargers fell behind early in set one after a pair of Defender runs and were unable to mount a comeback falling 11-25. The Chargers hit -.185 in the first set to Dordt's .273 hitting percentage.
BC's best set was the second set when they hit .240 with 10 kills. However, the Chargers started slow again, falling behind 4-9 but would pull within three after an
Abbey Jones service ace. A 5-0 run from the Defender was too much overcome, and the Cliff fell 17-25. Dordt took set three 25-13 behind a .310 hitting percentage.
Alexis Johnson and
Sami Wasmund led the Cliff with six kills apiece.
Chloe Johnson had a team high 11 digs to go with three kills.
Toria Andre had four blocks,
Georgianna Wenzel had three and Wasmund had two.
The Chargers return to the Newman Flanagan Center this Friday for a meeting with #2 Jamestown at 7:30 p.m.
