Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

BC FALLS TO #2 JAMESTOWN FRIDAY

Strong showings from middle hitters Sami Wasmund and Toria Andre were not enough to push the Briar Cliff volleyball team past #2 Jamestown Friday night. The duo both hit over .500 for the night and combined for 17 kills.

"I was proud of how we minimized our errors tonight, we only had six hitting errors tonight which really kept us even with Jamestown," said head coach Lindsey Weatherford. "We have been working diligently on improving our blocking matchups and that hard work showed tonight."

The Chargers went toe-to-toe with the Jimmies in set one, hitting .278 to their .286 but eventually fell 20-25. Andre and Wasmund came out swinging recording three kills apiece with a .429 and .500 hitting percentage, respectively.

After back-and-forth points through the first nine rallies, the Jimmies gained control of the set with a 5-0 run. However, BC stayed within five points of the second ranked Jimmies throughout the set. An Andre kill late in the set pulled the Cliff within two, but a three-point Jimmie swing sealed the set.

The Chargers answered an early Jimmie run with a 6-1 run of their own to tie the contest at 7-7. Wasmund was responsible for three points in the run with two kills and a service ace. The Jimmies were able to sustain scoring runs in the back half of the set to take a 16-25 win.

Jamestown closed out the match 25-15 in the final set after hitting .361 and holding the Cliff to .192.

Andre tied her season high with nine kills and recorded a new season best .600 hitting percentage to go with two blocks.

"That was the best match Toria has played all season, said Weatherford. "She was on fire tonight and was relentless in hitting the ball to areas of the court that the Jamestown defense was not in."

Wasmund stuffed the stat sheet with eight kills, two aces, three blocks (two solo) and hit .500.

"Sami has been one of our most consistent athletes on the court all season and her kills, blocks and aces all came at crucial times during the match," noted Weatherford.

Tannah Heath dished out 27 kills, had one ace and four digs. Abbey Jones had a team high 13 digs and had two assists.

The Chargers recorded their best team hitting percentage (.258) of the season against the #2 Jimmies who have held opponents to a .099 hitting percentage through 23 games.

The Chargers are back in action tomorrow afternoon in Crete, Nebraska against Doane. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
