The Briar Cliff track and field teams were back in action Saturday at the Mount Marty Opener in Yankton, South Dakota.Â
Wilton George,
Ben Jefferies,
Damond Anderson and
Isabel Sayler all took first place in their respective events.
"Today was an incredible day for the program," said head coach
Scott Barnes. "Aside from us hitting three national standards with Ben in the 400, Wilton in the 60m hurdles and the 60m dash, we took a ton of firsts and seconds. From top to bottom we bested most of our season marks."
Wilton George finished first in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.14s. He was .03 seconds shy of the school record, set by Erik Lindsay in 2011. George also went on to win the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.86 seconds. George's 60-meter dash time ranks eighth among NAIA runners, while his 60-meter hurdle time is currently the seventh fastest. His 22.52 time in the 200-meter dash was good for a third place finish.
Jefferies, last year's 400-meter dash NAIA National Champion, won the event with a time of 48.50 seconds. Anderson placed first in men's triple jump with a 12.19m leap.Â
Deiondre Rice finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 12.19m. Â
On the women's side,
Isabel Sayler won her first career triple jump with a leap of 10.30m. Jasmine Joesph finished sixth in the 200-meter with a time of 28.02. Joseph ran her 60-meter race in 8.25 seconds, good for a fifth place finish.Â
Robert Amaro placed second in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:27.45. The Chargers men's 4x400 relay team consisting of
Ryan Kotey,
Ramon Harkins, Jefferies, and
Paxon Fleming placed third with a time of 3:28.02. Rice also took third in the long jump with a 5.75.Â
The Chargers track and field team will be back in action on January 29, in Yankton, South Dakota for the Mount Marty Invite.
