Briar Cliff football struggled in Sioux Center, Iowa Saturday against RV Dordt and lost 58-0. Briar Cliff falls to 3-7 (3-6 GPAC) on the season while Dordt improves to 6-3.
"Give credit to a very talented Dordt team, who executed consistently," said head coach
Shane LaDage. "We had our opportunities early but didn't capitalize. We look forward to getting back to work tomorrow."
The Charger defense started the game strong, forcing two straight three and outs. Briar Cliff had a scoring opportunity in their opening drive but missed on a 41-yard field goal attempt.
Dordt capitalized on a short punt by
Christian Mendoza in the first quarter, driving 49 yards for the first touchdown of the day. A 35-yard reception from
Aaron Okoro on the following BC drive, put the Chargers on Dordt's side of the field. The offense would stall and fail to convert on fourth and long.
Dordt scored two touchdowns in each quarter, while the Charger offense failed to reach the Defender red zone once.
Luke Davies completed 13 passes for 130 yards. Okoro grabbed four catches for 68 yards and
Tim Brown had 48 yards on six receptions. Brown also gained 46 yards on two rushes.
Christian Balmer had a team high eight tackles (five solo) and added one tackle for a loss.
Brett Tinker and
MJ Montgomery registered seven tackles a piece. Montgomery had one tackle for a loss and one fumble recovery.
Dordt's rushing attack was on full display Saturday, as the Defenders rushed for 412 yards on 54 attempts and scored seven touchdowns on the ground. Josh Bush led the way with 136 yards on 15 attempts.
The Chargers host Northwestern on November 13 for Senior Day at Memorial Field in their final game of the season.
