Charger football falls to #4 Northwestern on Senior Day

Briar Cliff football wrapped up the 2021 season Saturday afternoon with a 63-7 loss to #4 Northwestern at Memorial Field. Head coach Shane LaDage guided the Chargers to a 3-8 mark in his first season as head coach at the Cliff. 

"I'm really proud of how hard our guys played even though we came up on the wrong end said head coach Shane LaDage. "Hats off to a very talented Northwestern team."

Freshman quarterback Luke Davies passed for 183 yards and one touchdown in the contest, bringing his season total to 2,290 passing yards and landing him 16 yards shy of BCU's single-season record. 

Senior Asi Tupua had one sack for 13 yards against the Red Raiders. He ends his Charger career with12.5 total sacks, good for third on the program's all-time list.  

Briar Cliff's fourth-quarter touchdown was the result of a 12-play, 75-yard drive capped off by Tim Brown rushing two yards into the end zone.  

Northwestern needed just 3:48 to get on the scoreboard Saturday. The Red Raiders used eight plays to march 82 yards down the field on their opening drive and take a 7-0 lead over the Chargers. The Red Raiders scored twice in the first, second and fourth quarters and put up 21 points in the third. 

"It was great to see Aaron Okoro continue to show that he is one of the top young players in our league," said LaDage. "Gilbert Bujanda and Brett Tinker played excellent defensively and kept us in the game in the 1st half. Dawson Forcella played his best game as well. Thank you to all our seniors who left the program in great shape moving forward."

Aaron Okoro hauled in 10 catches for 121 yards. Over the final four games, Okoro averaged seven catches and 105.8 yards per game. Dawson Forcella rushed for 76 yards on 11 attempts, including a 57-yard rush in the fourth quarter. Forcella and Tim Brown had three receptions and Kobe Johnson had two. 

Gilbert Bujanda registered nine tackles (seven solo) and two sacks for 12 yards. Brett Tinker had eight tackles (seven solo) and had one sack. MJ Montgomery and Tupua also notched one sack. 

Tyson Kooima completed 10-of-12 passes for 154 yards and a touchdown. Logan Meyer rushed 12 times for 82 yards and two touchdowns. Canon Flores caught four passes for 108 yards and Cade Moser caught two touchdowns.
