Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Chargers down York in straight sets

The Charger volleyball team was back in action Wednesday night taking on the York Panthers in York, Nebraska for a non-conference meeting. The Cliff got things rolling early, carrying that momentum throughout the match, and sweeping the Panthers (25-16, 25-20, 25-15).

"Everyone came out ready to play tonight, we were focused and worked well together throughout the night," said head coach Lindsey Weatherford. "Our middles, Toria and Sami, continued their consistent play tonight, while Chloe is heating up for us down the stretch."

In set one, the Chargers took a commanding 18-9 lead off a barrage of kills from Chloe Johnson and Sami Wasmund.  Wasmund had five kills in the set while Johnson followed behind her with four. The Cliff would close out the set 25-16.

Set two featured back and forth action between both squads. With the score tied 15-15, the Chargers outscored the Panthers 8-2 to take a 23-17 lead in the last half of the set. They would then close out the set 25-20 after a Tyra Blue kill. Kailee Tucker led the way with four kills while Blue had three kills in the set.

The Cliff looked to put away the Panthers early, as they raced off to a 11-5 lead in set three. The Chargers stayed in command for the remainder of the night, downing York 25-15 completing the sweep. Johnson was on fire in the final set, notching seven kills in set three alone.

Johnson led the way for the Chargers with 13 kills, followed by Sami Wasmund (10), and Toria Andre (six).  Wasmund also added three service aces and Jo Sadler tallied two. Andre led the team in blocks with six, followed by Taryn Nothem with three.  Maureen Imrie dished out 20 assists and Madilyn Wagaman added 19. Sadler and Wagaman added 12 and nine digs respectively.

The Chargers will be back on the road tomorrow, as they travel to Hastings, Nebraska October 9th for a conference matchup with the Hastings Broncos.
