Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s soccer wins at Jamestown, earns share of GPAC regular season title

For the first time in program history the Charger men's soccer team has earned a share of the GPAC regular season title. The Cliff closed out the regular season with a 3-1 win over Jamestown Saturday and finished with a 10-1 GPAC record.

The Chargers are co-champions with Northwestern who defeated Doane Saturday night and hold a 10-1 conference mark.

"We wanted to start the game well and we did," said head coach Clark Charlestin. "Lately, we have had a fantastic attitude towards getting the job done and this group clearly understands that message."

It didn't take long for Sebastian Justiniano to give the Chargers a lead, scoring in the 14th minute, assisted by Vinicius Gregorio. Justiniano tacked onto the Charger lead in the 27th scoring, assisted by Jacob Harvey and BC took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Virgen added an insurance goal three minutes into the second half, extending the Charger lead to three. Jamestown found their first goal of the contest in the 50th minute from Diego Valle, assisted by Aaron Pike. The Jimmies were able to fire six shots, but Charger goalie Leandro Faria made three saves in the final 40 minutes to preserve the 3-1 win.

Virgen paced the Blue and Gold putting all three of his shots on frame, with two goals. Gregorio put two shots on goal and Justiniano added one. Faria allowed one goal and made three saves in 90 minutes in net.

Briar Cliff held the edge in shots 14-9, shots on goal 8-4 and committed less fouls 6-7. The Jimmies had the advantage in corner kicks 5-4.

The Chargers enter the GPAC postseason tournament as the #2 seed and will host at Faber Field for the first round next Wednesday.
