A pair of goals from Sebastian Justiano was enough, as the Briar Cliff men's soccer downed Hastings 2-1 in overtime Saturday. The victory is the fourth in a row for the Charger squad and they improve to 8-5 overall and 6-1 in GPAC play.
"We are starting to find who we are," said head coach
Clark Charlestin. "I love the composure and discipline of our team today. This is a good win for us."
Hastings jumped out to an early lead just five minutes into the contest as Tyler Mase beat Charger keeper
Leandro Faria. Justiano would net the equalizer in the 11th minute, assisted by
Danny Baca. The two teams would enter halftime tied at 1-1.
The second half of action saw six shots from the Broncos and five from the Blue and Gold, but neither team could break the tie. Three minutes into the first overtime,
Luis Paulo Sartor would find Justiniano in front of the net, who was able to put away the game winning goal.
Justiniano,
Vinicius Ribeiro and
Jacob Harvey led the Cliff with two shots on goal apiece. Faria made two saves in net. The Chargers held the advantage in shots 14-11, shots on goal 8-4 and corner kicks 4-0.
Briar Cliff will travel across town to face off against Morningside Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. A season ago, the two teams tied 1-1 in their regular season meeting, while the Chargers won 1-0 in the GPAC Postseason Championship game.
