BC men's volleyball played its third match in two days Saturday at the Park University Tournament and came away with a 3-0 sweep of Mount Mercy. The Cliff won by set scores of 25-21, 25-18 and 29-27.
The third set was the most exciting of the contest as it took extra points for the Chargers to finish off the Mustangs. BC led 22-18 late in the set but allowed a 5-1 run by Mount Mercy to tie the set at 23-all.Â
Riley Owen put down a kill to give the Chargers a chance at match point, but the Mustangs responded with a kill of their own for a 24-24 tie. BC never gave Mount Mercy a chance at match point and eventually prevailed 29-27.Â
After jumping out to a 4-0 lead in set one, the Chargers allowed Mount Mercy to hang around. Although the Mustangs never took the lead from the Cliff, they did trail by just one multiple times in the set, including at 19-18 before BC went on a 6-3 run to end the game. The Blue and Gold nearly ran away with set two, leading 17-10 at one point. Mount Mercy came back within four points but the Chargers were never in real danger and won the second game by seven.
Riley Owen led the team in kills with 15 andÂ
Ivan Trifunovic.Â
Tyler Godown had an impressive day with a perfect swinging percentage as the sophomore tallied seven kills on seven attempts at the net.Â
Hunter Miller,Â
Kyle Cox and Timothy Payan Jr. shared the setting duties with 20, 15 and 10 assists on the afternoon, respectively. On the defensive end, Noah Marasco Ayau recorded 14 digs and Godown took part in three blocks.Â
