The offensive woes continued to the Briar Cliff football team Saturday as the team hosted Midland at Memorial Field and fell 56-3. Six interceptions thrown by the Cliff made things difficult for BC's normally stout defense, which has not allowed 56 points since September of 2018.
It seemed defense would be the story of the afternoon as both teams started the game with a pair of three-and-out drives, but the Warriors were able to make the most of the Charger turnovers en route to their first win of the season.Â
Freshman
Jonathan Branner helped BC avoid getting shutout by kicking a 22-yard field goal on the opening drive of the second half.Â
The only other time the Cliff neared the end zone came in the second quarter, when the Chargers reached the Midland 17 before turning the ball over via interception.
Midland put together 429 yards of total offense, compared to just 246 by Briar Cliff.
John Bell passed for 116 Charger yards and committed all six BC turnovers by interception. Bell was also the Cliff's rushing leader with 14 attempts for 57 yards.
Ryan Kotey had five receptions for 27 yards and
Dawson Forcella added 35 yards with two receptions.Â
Defensively,
Brett Tinker registered nine total tackles and assisted on one sack with
MJ Montgomery.
Donald Garland added seven total tackles and
Robert Robinson tacked on four tackles with one solo sack.Â
The Chargers slip to 0-3 on the season while Midland picks up its first win and moves to 1-2. Briar Cliff will travel across town next week to take on Morningside at Elwood-Olsen Stadium.
