The Briar Cliff football team is still in search of its first win of 2020 after a 68-3 loss Saturday at Morningside.
BC's troubles started on the game's opening drive. The second snap of the contest ended with a fumble by
John Bell, which was recovered by the Mustangs at the Morningside 28 and resulted in a touchdown for the opposition.Â
The Chargers had possession for just 32 seconds after the opening kickoff before a fumble resulted in a turnover in favor of the Mustangs. The Morningside began its first drive on the Morningside 28 and needed just three plays to find the end zone at the 13:51 mark of the first quarter.
Brandon Faatalalale nearly picked off a pass on Morningside's next drive to turn the momentum in the Chargers' direction, but the ball hit the turf in the end and Morningside scored its second touchdown on the next play.Â
The Cliff's only score of the afternoon came in the middle of the second quarter with a field goal by freshman
Jonathan Branner.
Robert Robinson and Kwan Allen Jr. both recorded seven tackles on the afternoon. Faatalale had the lone tackle for loss.
John Bell threw for 200 yards and
Cayden Mitchell added 30 for BC.
Kobe Johnson was the top target, hauling in seven passes for 87 yards.
Emmanuel Mitchell rushed for 31 yard on 13 attempts.Â
Briar Cliff falls to 0-4 on the year while Morningside stays undefeated at 3-0. The Cliff will be off next week before hitting the road October 24 to Hastings.
