Briar Cliff University

Alex Groth joined the Briar Cliff coaching staff in the 2018 season and is currently in his first year with the Cliff. Groth is also the assistant varsity/pitching coach for the Sioux City North High School baseball team. Before joining the Cliff, he coached the South Sioux City Senior Legion baseball team from 2011-17 and piled up a record of 137-124 with two Class A State Tournament appearances. His team finished third in the 2012 Class A Nebraska Legion State Tournament. Groth was also the assistant varsity/pitching coach for South Sioux City High School from 2015-17 and had two pitchers finish in the top-10 in the entire state of Nebraska for ERA.

Prior to coaching, Groth was a pitcher for the Morningside Mustangs from 2011-14. He helped lead the Mustangs to a 117-94 record as a player. Groth finished with a career pitching record of 11-6 with eight saves.
