Andrew Krause is in his second year as the Chargers' special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach.

Coaching the defensive secondary is a strength of Krause's as he has been coaching defensive backs in some capacity since 1989, with nine different teams. Krause was in Tucson, Arizona from 1989 through 2010 coaching defensive backs at a combined seven different high schools or colleges. He got his start at Palo Verde High School and coached there from 1989-91 before moving on to Canyon Del Oro High School from 1996-99. Krause was at Catalina High School in 2000 and then coached at Ironwood Ridge High School from 2001-05. He then moved up to the college ranks for two years (2006-07) at Pima Community College before heading back to high school and coaching at Santa Rita High School from 2008-09 where he helped the team reach back-to-back state championship games. Krause spent the 2010 season at Sahuaro High School before moving to Winfield, Kansas and coaching for four seasons (2011-14) at Southwestern College. He then served as defensive backs coach at Friends University in Wichita, Kansas for part of 2015 before agreeing to join the Charger football program. Krause was also the defensive backs and wide receiver coach for the USA under 19 All-Stars at the Global Challenge Bowl in Japan in 2009 and France in 2010.

While at Southwestern, Krause was also the co-defensive coordinator in 2013 and 2014 and ranked 17th in the nation in pass defense in 2014. Krause produced a first team All-American free safety in the 2013 season. Off the field, Krause served on Southwestern's Athletic/Academic Council and was the football academic coordinator.
