FOOTBALL PREPARES FOR MOUNT MARTY IN THE CATHOLIC CUP PRESENTED BY PIZZA RANCH

The Charger football team prepares to travel to Yankton, South Dakota for the third edition of the Catholic Cup against the Mount Marty Lancers this Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

SCOUTING THE CHARGERS
The Charger football team dropped a closely contested 29-22 decision to the Mayville State Comets in their season opener last Saturday.

Briar Cliff totaled 295 yards of offense in the contest, including 245 yards through the air and 50 yards on the ground. The Chargers recorded 17 first downs while finding the end zone three times.

Chase Thomas led the Charger rushing attack with eight carries for 28 yards while also making an impact in the passing game. Thomas hauled in five receptions for 70 yards and a touchdown.

Dyson Fay added one reception for 37 yards, while Michael Hensley recorded two catches for 33 yards. Ezra Heiner also contributed two receptions for 29 yards.

Defensively, Cameron Cayou and Kael Forsyth led the Chargers with 11 tackles apiece. Cayou added three assisted tackles, while Forsyth finished with three assisted tackles.

Dayton Harrell recorded five tackles, while Keivon Booker added four tackles. Kyle Gibson finished with four tackles, including a tackle-for-loss.

The Charger defense held Mayville State to just 103 passing yards while allowing 303 yards of total offense.

SCOUTING THE LANCERS
The Lancers opened the 2026 season with a dominant 55-6 victory over Clarke last Saturday in Yankton.

Mount Marty currently ranks fourth nationally in passing yards per game at 399.0 and sixth in total offense at 581.0 yards per contest.

Quarterback Rugby Ryken led the Lancer offense in the season opener, completing 23-of-28 passes for 361 yards and five touchdowns. Ryken's 82.1 completion percentage currently ranks among the top marks nationally.

Moshe Richmond led the receiving corps with five receptions for 182 yards and a touchdown, including a long reception of 79 yards. Jackson Wachholtz added six catches for 54 yards, while Rodney Broadnax recorded two receptions for 34 yards and a touchdown.

On the ground, Jordan Anderson carried the ball 15 times for 65 yards and a touchdown. Ryken added 39 rushing yards on seven carries and a touchdown, while Sawyer Saucerman recorded 23 rushing yards on seven carries.

Defensively, the Lancers held Clarke to just six points and 242 yards of total offense. Cole Cripps led the way with five tackles, while Brock Lubbers recorded seven tackles, including 2.5 tackles-for-loss and a quarterback hurry.

THE LAST TIME OUT
The Chargers took home the Catholic Cup with a 34-20 victory in Yankton, SD last fall.

For the Chargers, Brock Saya went 17-for-24 passing for 191 yards and threw two touchdowns to one interception. Kymani Fleurme finished with seven catches for 101 yards and hauled in two touchdowns. Thomas followed rushing for 68 yards and also scoring two touchdowns of his own.

For the Lancers, Ryken went 11-for-22 passing for 96 yards and one passing touchdown. Kyle Hirsch ran for 96 yards on 10 carries and scored one touchdown.
