The Charger women's soccer team shut out the University of Saint Mary Spires 4-0 Saturday evening in Leavenworth, Kansas, improving to 5-0 on the season.
Sierra Brooks put Briar Cliff on the board in the 22nd minute, scoring off an assist from
Abby Derbyshire to give the Chargers a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
The Chargers continued their offensive attack in the second half, with
Therese Molin finding the back of the net in the 58th minute off an assist from
Carlota Crespo.
Angelina Saade added another goal in the 66th minute, assisted by Derbyshire, to extend the BCU lead to 3-0.
Libby Fraser capped the scoring in the 81st minute with an unassisted goal, giving the Chargers the 4-0 victory.
Briar Cliff dominated possession and pressure throughout the match, out shooting Saint Mary 30-3 and holding an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks. The Chargers put 15 shots on target, while
Caitlin Anderholm and
Clare Jacobs combined for two saves to record the shutout.
Brooks, Molin, Saade and Fraser each scored for the Chargers, while Derbyshire recorded two assists.
The Chargers return to action on Tuesday, September 15 traveling to Bellevue, Nebraska to take on Bellevue University. Kick-off 6.
