The Briar Cliff women's soccer team upset the No. 18 Central Methodist Eagles 3-2 Sunday afternoon in Fayette, Missouri, to remain unbeaten on the season.
The Chargers jumped out to a quick lead when Ellen Lofsjogard scored in the 18th minute off an assist from Ondine Manceau. Just 90 seconds later, Angelina Saade doubled the BCU advantage with an assist from Sierra Brooks.
BCU added to its lead in the 39th minute when Therese Molin found the back of the net off assists from Carlota Crespo and Elena Ochoa, giving the Chargers a 3-0 advantage. Central Methodist answered before halftime to cut the deficit to 3-1.
The Eagles continued to battle in the second half, pulling within one in the 78th minute on their second goal of the afternoon. The Charger defense held strong over the final 12 minutes to secure the 3-2 victory over the No. 18 Eagles.
Caitlin Anderholm came up big in goal, recording seven saves. The Chargers finished with five shots, all five on target, while Lofsjogard, Saade and Molin each recorded a goal.
With the win the Chargers improve to 2-0 on the season. Briar Cliff returns to action on Wednesday, September 2, heading to Lamoni, Iowa to take on Graceland University. Kick-off is set for 5 PM.
