The Briar Cliff softball team fell to the RV Dordt Defenders on Saturday afternoon, with a score of 6-1. Game two was put to a halt in the fifth inning and will resume play on Monday. 

Dordt broke through in the third inning when Kreuz doubled to bring home the first run of the game. The Defenders added to their lead in the fifth with a solo home run to center field by Hensley and continued to build separation late in the contest.

Shelby Blankenship took the loss in the circle for the Chargers, working 3.2 innings while allowing five runs on five hits. She struck out one and walked one.

Offensively, Briar Cliff collected seven hits, with Kaela Persico leading the way at the plate. The first baseman finished a perfect 2-for-2 and drove in the Chargers' lone run of the game.

Dordt's Yager earned the complete-game win, allowing just one run over seven innings while striking out nine.
Briar Cliff returns to action to finish game two of the series Monday.
