CHARGERS SWEEP WARRIORS ON THE ROAD

The Briar Cliff baseball team completed a doubleheader sweep of Waldorf on Saturday, earning a 10-3 win in game one before outlasting the Warriors 17-11 in a high-scoring nightcap.

Game One – W, 10-3

The Chargers set the tone early and never looked back, scoring in six of the seven innings.

Briar Cliff jumped on the board in the first inning with an RBI double from Cade Marquardt before Raenan Padilla added a solo home run in the second to extend the lead. The Chargers broke the game open in the third inning, plating three runs, including a two-run sequence aided by Waldorf errors.

The offense continued to roll with two runs in the fourth and additional runs in the fifth and sixth innings to build a commanding lead.

Connor Neubeck led the Chargers at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Padilla added two hits and two RBIs, while Marquardt and Damon Schmid each drove in runs.

On the mound, Brock Saya tossed a complete game, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out nine to earn the win.

Game Two – W, 17-11

The second game turned into an offensive showcase, with the Chargers using timely hitting to pull away late.

Briar Cliff scored five runs over the first two innings, highlighted by a two-run home run from Nico Sall in the first. After Waldorf battled back to tie and eventually take the lead during a big fourth inning, the Chargers responded in the fifth when Grant Devecsery launched a grand slam to put Briar Cliff back in front.

The Chargers continued to add insurance runs late, including a four-run seventh inning and another run in the eighth to secure the win.

Devecsery led the offensive explosion with four RBIs, while Sall added a home run and two RBIs. Damon Schmid contributed two RBIs, and Jake Christianson scored four runs in the contest.

Briar Cliff totaled 17 runs on 13 hits and drew 10 walks in the game.

Out of the bullpen, Brendan Ward earned the win, while the Chargers used multiple arms to close out the victory.

The Chargers improve to 22-21 (15-9 GPAC) and will travel to Brookings, South Dakota to take on the South Dakota State University Jackrabbits. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
