The 19
th ranked Briar Cliff women's basketball team earned a strong road win Saturday afternoon, defeating the Midland Warriors 78–54 in GPAC action.
The Chargers had to settle in early after a slow start, trailing 15–12 at the end of the first quarter. BCU responded in a big way in the second period, erupting for 28 points while holding the Warriors to just 11 to take a 40–26 lead into halftime. The Cliff maintained control through the third quarter and pulled away down the stretch, limiting the Warriors to only nine fourth-quarter points to secure the 24-point victory.
Abby Lee led all scorers with a game-high 24 points, shooting 9-of-19 from the field while adding eight rebounds and four steals.
Kenna Mongan followed with 12 points, six rebounds, and five assists, while
Mallie McNair contributed 11 points and eight rebounds.
Mallory Leerar chipped in nine points, and
Brooklyn Heineman and
Taylor Sodeman each added eight points in the win.
Briar Cliff controlled the glass, outrebounding Midland 48–40 and forced 19 Warrior turnovers that helped fuel the Chargers offensively. BCU shot 44.1% from the field.
With the win, Briar Cliff improves to 18–7 overall and 12–7 in GPAC play. The Chargers return to action Wednesday February 11, traveling to Sioux Center, IA to take on No.1 Dordt. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
