The 19^th-ranked Briar Cliff women's basketball team battled throughout Wednesday night inside the Newman Flanagan Center but fell to Northwestern, 78–72, in GPAC action. 

The Chargers and Red Raiders traded blows early, with Northwestern holding a narrow 22–21 edge after the opening quarter. Briar Cliff responded in the second, outscoring Northwestern 19–12 to take a 40–34 lead into halftime. NWC surged in the third period, putting up 26 to regain control, and held off the BCU down the stretch to secure the road win.

Abby Lee led Briar Cliff with a game-high 27 points, shooting 11-of-19 from the field and knocking down four three-pointers while also adding six rebounds. Mallie McNair followed with 15 points and two assists, and Kenna Mongan added 10 points and five assists. Brooklyn Heineman chipped in six rebounds, while Kinzee Hinders provided a spark off the bench with four points and three boards. 

As a team, the Chargers shot 41.7% from the floor and hit eight three-pointers. Briar Cliff forced 13 turnovers and stayed within reach throughout.

With the loss the Chargers move to 17-7 overall and 11-7 in GPAC. BCU returns to action this Saturday traveling to Fremont, NE to take on the Midland Warriors. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
