The Charger baseball team dropped a tough doubleheader against the visiting Bellevue Bruins Wednesday afternoon at the Bishop Mueller Complex.
Game 1 – L, 3-6
The Cliff got on the board early in game one, as
Nico Sall reached scoring position with a two-out double in the bottom of the first to put a runner in scoring position. A RBI single from
Cade Marquardt gave the Chargers an early 1-0 lead.
The Bruins in the top of the fourth took a two-run lead following a three-run homer from Dylan Holmes.
Grant Devecsery cut the lead to one in the bottom of the inning, with a solo shot over the right field wall.
A two-run shot by the Bruins in the top of the fifth extended their lead to three runs. BC scored a run in the bottom of the inning, as
Kaden Allred scored off an error from the Bruins.
Sall went three-for-four at the plate while Marquardt went two-for-four at the dish.
Connor Neubeck and
Greyson Kay each recorded a hit.
Nick Hays got the start for the Chargers on the bump, tossing six innings and allowed eight hits and recorded nine strikeouts.
Game 2 – L, 5-9
The Bruins took a 7-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth.
Marquardt led off the bottom of the inning with a double followed by Neubeck drawing a walk put runners on first and second with no outs.
Caleb St. Cyr capitalized on the opportunity with a three-run shot over the right center field wall to put the Chargers on the board.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, a leadoff double from
Raenan Padilla put a runner in scoring position. A sacrifice groundout from Marquardt trimmed the Bruin lead to three.
Brett Sitzmann in relief pitched four innings and allowed two runs scattered across six hits while recording five strikeouts.
The Chargers move to 2-8 and will host the Bellevue Bruins next week. Date and time is to be determined.
