The Briar Cliff women's soccer team earned a 3-0 victory over the Northwestern Red Raiders Wednesday evening in Orange City, Iowa, improving to 7-4-1 overall and 3-3-1 in GPAC play.
The Chargers opened the scoring in the 20th minute when a Northwestern own goal gave Briar Cliff a 1-0 advantage. The Chargers carried that lead into halftime while continuing to pressure the Red Raider defense.
BCU added to its lead in the second half as Libby Fraser found the back of the net in the 70th minute, assisted by Courtney Baxter and Ondine Manceau. Just five minutes later, Alexis Vasquez scored an unassisted goal to extend the Chargers' advantage to 3-0.
The Chargers controlled the offensive attack, finishing with 23 shots, including 11 on goal compared to seven shots and four on target for Northwestern. Vasquez and Fraser each scored, while Baxter and Manceau recorded assists.
Caitlin Anderholm recorder four saves to earn the shutout as Briar Cliff secured the 3-0 road victory.
The Chargers return to action on Saturday, October 17, hosting the College of Saint Mary Flames in more GPAC action. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.
