A slow start doomed the Charger men's basketball team as they fell 74-66 to the visiting Mount Marty Lancers inside the Newman Flanagan Center Saturday afternoon.
A 9-2 by the Lancers late in the first half gave them a 32-22 lead. A basket from Blake Sindelar with 1:32 remaining cut the lead back to single digits.
Late in the second half, the Chargers cut into the Lancer lead, trimming the deficit by three after a triple from Dawson Mohr. The Cliff trailed 55-52 with 5:18 remaining. The Lancers would go on an 8-3 run to push the lead back to eight. With 40 seconds left, Blake Sindelar scored on a quick layup to cut the lead to two possessions. Mount Marty was able to sink two free throws at the end to push the lead back to eight.
Sindlear led all scorers in the contest, scoring 28 points while recording seven assists and grabbing five rebounds. Colby Collison added 10 points while going a perfect three-for-three from downtown. Jaxson Wingert added nine points and grabbed eight rebounds.
The Lancers were efficient on offense in the second half, converting on 53.8% of their attempts from the field. Four players for Mount Marty scored in double figures.
The Cliff moves to 9-10 (6-6 GPAC) and will return to the Newman Flanagan Center next Wednesday, as they host the Waldorf Warriors. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
