The Briar Cliff women's volleyball team split their matches Friday at the Peru Triangular, earning a four-set win over Avila (MO) before falling to host Peru State in straight sets. The Chargers move to 6-4 on the season.
Game 1 vs Avila (MO) – W, 3-1
Briar Cliff dropped a tight first set but responded with three straight victories to claim a 3-1 win over Avila (23-25, 25-11, 25-19, 25-17). The Charger dominated the second set, hitting a .483 with 15 kills and just one error to swing momentum their way. The Chargers finished the match with a .281 hitting percentage and 17 total team blocks.
Tamika Eastman paced the offense with 14 kills on a .485 clip, while
Caton Firkins added 8 kills and 4 block assists.
Brooklyn Voss and
Aubrey Hoeft combined for 15 total blocks, with Hoeft leading the way with 9. Setter
Kylie Hart dished out 30 assists to lead the attack, while libero
Avery Beller anchored the defense, collecting 26 digs.
Game 2 vs Peru State – L, 0-3
In the Chargers' second match of the day, they fell in straight sets, 17-25, 16-25, 22-25 to a sharp Peru State squad. Briar Cliff was held to a .092 hitting percentage but stayed competitive with 7 total team blocks.
Aliyah Basham led the offense with 9 kills on a .400 hitting percentage, while Firkins added 7 kills along with 3 block assists. Hoeft continued to make an impact at the net with 6 total blocks.
On the defensive end, Beller tallied 9 digs, and
Isabelle Lenz chipped in 8.
Briar Cliff starts GPAC action on the road this Wednesday, taking on Morningside. The match is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
