The Briar Cliff women's volleyball team earned a GPAC road win this Saturday evening, taking down the Hastings Broncos in four sets (25-20, 21-25, 25-19, 25-23).
The Chargers set the tone early with a strong first-set win before the Broncos answered back in the second to even the match. Briar Cliff regained control in the third set and carried that momentum into a tight fourth set, finishing strong to close out the game.
Emma Brenelli led the way for the Chargers with 14 kills on a .263 hitting percentage, while
Aliyah Basham and
Caton Firkins each tallied 9.
Tamika Eastman added 6 kills, and
Brooklyn Voss chipped in 5.Â
Setter
Kylie Hart paced the attack with 17 assists, and
Iwalani Beltran added 13, along with 2 service aces.
Avery Beller anchored the back row with a team-high 23 digs and also contributed 2 aces of her own. She was followed by Beltran, who had 17, and
Joana Neves, who had 9. At the net,
Aubrey Hoeft, Basham, Â and Voss combined for 18 total blocks.Â
As a team, Briar Cliff recorded 49 kills and held Hastings to 0.75 hitting percentage.
The Chargers now move to 8-8 overall and 2-4 in conference. They return to action Tuesday night, traveling to Wayne, NE, to take on Wayne State College. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m.
