The Briar Cliff women's volleyball team fell in straight sets to No. 6 Northwestern Saturday evening inside the Newman Flanagan Center.
After dropping the first two sets, the Chargers showed fight late in the third. Trailing 20-15, Briar Cliff used a short run that included kills from
Brooklyn Voss and
Aliyah Basham, along with a service ace from
Addy Pigott, to close the gap to 22-20. Northwestern, however, secured the final points to seal the sweep.
Caton Firkins led the Chargers with 9 kills on a .471 hitting percentage, while Basham followed with 8, and Voss added 7.
Tamika Eastman also chipped in 5 kills and 2 block assists on the night.
Setter
Kylie Hart paced the offense with 17 assists, and
Iwalani Beltran added 13, along with one ace. Defensively, libero
Avery Beller anchored the back row with 16 digs, while Voss and
Aubrey Hoeft combined for 6 block assists.
The Chargers move to 6-6 on the season and 0-2 in GPAC play. They will be back in action Wednesday night, traveling to Forest City, IA, to face Waldorf University, first serve is set for 7:30 p.m.
