The Charger women's volleyball team opened the season with a split Friday, falling 3-1 against Governors State early in the day before picking up a 3-1 victory over Bismarck State at the Siouxland Invitational in North Sioux City, South Dakota. The victory over the Mystics marked the first under first-year Head Coach Lauren Boatman.

Game 1 vs Governors State – L, 3-1
Trailing 23-18, the Cliff rallied back and scored four straight points to cut the lead to one following a block from
Brooklyn Voss and
Aliyah Basham. The Jaguars were able to fend off the Charger rally and took the set 25-23.

The Cliff in set two jumped out to a 10-5 lead early that included a 5-0 run capped off by a service ace from
Georgianna Wenzel and forcing a Jaguar timeout. Leading 18-16 late in the set, BCU secured the set by scoring seven straight points powered by two service aces from Wenzel and two kills from
Isabelle Lenz.

The Jaguars took the final two sets 30-28 and 25-21 to take the win.

Lenz led the team in kills with 14 followed by
Tamika Eastman's 10 and Voss' eight.
Iwalani Beltran led the team in assists with 24 followed by
Kylie Hart's 17. Libero
Avery Beller recorded 29 digs in the contest.

Game 2 vs Bismarck State – W, 3-1

After dropping set one, the Chargers would win three straight by 25-17, 25-14, and 25-17. Basham,
Caton Firkins and
Aubrey Hoeft all recorded eight kills in the match. Hart led the team in assists with 21 followed by Beltran's 18. Beller recorded 25 digs in the match followed by Wenzel's nine.

In set two the Chargers outscored the Mystics 7-2 in the final moments to secure the set. Hoeft recorded two kills during the stretch.
In set three, the Chargers rode their late game momentum, outscoring the Mystics 9-1 with Beltran recording three service aces during the stretch. A block by Hoeft and
Emma Brenelli secured the final point.

The Chargers return to action tomorrow as they take on Dickinson State and William Penn University in the Siouxland Invitational. Game one is slated for 1:00 p.m. with game two at 3:30 p.m.
